You run service calls out of a stocked van, most days six to nine stops. The work is drains, leaks, water heaters, fixtures, and the occasional emergency that reorders your whole afternoon. You are using a camera and a locator to find what you cannot see, running a sewer machine, cutting into walls carefully enough that the repair is not the expensive part. Diagnosis is most of it: water shows up a long way from where it escaped. You quote in front of the customer and often do the repair on the spot, so being able to explain what failed and what it costs is part of the job. Service is the customer-facing half of plumbing and the half most shops are shortest on.

Orlando plumbing runs on new construction and hospitality, which is close to the opposite of a retrofit market. The metro has been among the fastest-growing in the country for years, and subdivisions going up around Kissimmee, Sanford and the eastern corridor need rough-in crews far more than they need repipe specialists. The other half is the tourism corridor: hotels, resorts and restaurants run plumbing systems at commercial scale and at hours the public never sees, so overnight and early-morning service work is normal rather than exceptional. That mix rewards different skills than an older city does. New construction means production plumbing, reading prints, and hitting a schedule set by a general contractor. Hospitality means grease, high-volume fixtures, and a customer losing money every hour a line is down. Florida licenses contractors rather than employee plumbers, so the barrier to starting is low. Winter Park and the older inner suburbs carry some retrofit work, but the weight of the market is on what is being built.
