You run service calls rather than pulling wire on a new build. A day is troubleshooting: a dead circuit, a breaker that keeps tripping, a panel that needs replacing, a GFCI nobody can find. You are working with a meter and sometimes a megger, reading what a previous electrician did and figuring out where it went wrong. The code is not optional and the inspector is not negotiable, so knowing the NEC is doing the job rather than passing a test. Some days are residential and small; some are commercial, where a fault takes down equipment somebody is losing money on every minute. Service work is diagnostic before it is physical, which is why shops promote their sharpest people into it.

Orlando electrical is weighted toward new construction and hospitality rather than retrofit. Subdivisions around Kissimmee and Sanford keep rough-in crews busy, which is production work: reading prints, hitting a general contractor's schedule, and doing the same thing correctly a hundred times. The tourism corridor is the other half and it is a genuinely different discipline, because resorts, attractions and their supporting infrastructure run electrical systems with redundancy and control requirements that ordinary commercial work does not have, and service happens overnight while the property is closed to guests. That combination means an electrician here can move between production and complex commercial without changing cities. Florida licenses electrical contractors rather than employee electricians, so the barrier to a first job is low and shops compete on training. Summer afternoon storms make this one of the most lightning-prone parts of the country, which keeps surge protection and damaged-circuit repair on the board all season. Winter Park and the older inner suburbs carry the service and panel-upgrade work.
