You run service calls rather than pulling wire on a new build. A day is troubleshooting: a dead circuit, a breaker that keeps tripping, a panel that needs replacing, a GFCI nobody can find. You are working with a meter and sometimes a megger, reading what a previous electrician did and figuring out where it went wrong. The code is not optional and the inspector is not negotiable, so knowing the NEC is doing the job rather than passing a test. Some days are residential and small; some are commercial, where a fault takes down equipment somebody is losing money on every minute. Service work is diagnostic before it is physical, which is why shops promote their sharpest people into it.
Starting out in Las Vegas that is $36K-52K, and journeyman runs $68K-96K. These are Las Vegas market ranges, not a guarantee: where you land depends on your experience and the shop.
Electrical runs apprentice, journeyman, master. You log hours under a licensed electrician, do the classroom half, and sit the journeyman exam, which is what lets you work unsupervised. IBEW JATC and non-union shop programmes reach it on similar timelines; the wage schedule differs.

Las Vegas is unusual for electricians because Clark County requires a journeyman card by examination, and you do not need prior experience to sit it. That single fact changes the entry path here compared with almost every other market in the west: the exam is the gate rather than a shop's willingness to vouch for you, and people who study seriously can move faster than their years would suggest elsewhere. The work itself splits between the resort corridor, where hotels and casinos run electrical systems at a scale and a redundancy standard few cities match and where service happens overnight because the building never closes, and ordinary suburban growth through Henderson and North Las Vegas. Desert construction runs year-round without weather delays. The metro is compact by western standards, so commutes are short compared with Phoenix, and the concentration of large commercial work in one corridor means the commercial ladder is unusually accessible.
