You run service calls rather than pulling wire on a new build. A day is troubleshooting: a dead circuit, a breaker that keeps tripping, a panel that needs replacing, a GFCI nobody can find. You are working with a meter and sometimes a megger, reading what a previous electrician did and figuring out where it went wrong. The code is not optional and the inspector is not negotiable, so knowing the NEC is doing the job rather than passing a test. Some days are residential and small; some are commercial, where a fault takes down equipment somebody is losing money on every minute. Service work is diagnostic before it is physical, which is why shops promote their sharpest people into it.

You do not need a license to start. Georgia licenses contractors, not employee electricians.
Atlanta's electrical demand is concentrated where the data centres are. The corridor north and west of the city has absorbed electricians faster than the region trains them, and that shortage runs downhill into residential and commercial shops that now have to train rather than poach. Georgia licenses electrical contractors rather than every employee electrician, which means you can legally start as a helper and learn on the job without a card in your pocket, and it is why a helper position here is a genuine entry point rather than a dead end. What you do need is hours under someone licensed if you intend to sit for your own licence later, so it is worth asking a shop early whether they will sponsor and document that. Work ranges from residential service across the intown neighbourhoods to commercial fit-out following the metro's growth. Marietta, Decatur, Sandy Springs and Lawrenceville all carry their own shops.
